"ARCHETYPES OF LOVE" by Marie Pol Marie Pol's inaugural solo exhibition in Australia, "Archetypes of Love," stands as the apex of her artistic exploration to date. It delves deeply into timeless themes, including love, identity, and personal mythology, offering a profound and evocative experience for viewers. Through the lens of eternal plots, myths, and archetypes, Pol invites the audience to discern their unique emotional journey within the grand narratives of the past. This recent collection converges on the theme of love (Eros) as a potent antidote to the shadows of death and destruction (Thanatos). Pol reflects on the fascinating interplay between our individual love stories—distinct and irreplicable—and the intangible love ideals, akin to Plato's "Allegory of the Cave." She expands the notion of love beyond the romantic, embracing its various forms, as classified by the ancient Greeks: Friendly Love (Philia), Universal Love (Agape), Flirtatious Love (Ludus), Familial Love (Storge), Committed Love (Pragma), and Self-Love (Philautia). Embark on a journey of self-discovery as you explore the multifaceted dimensions of love, bridging personal narratives with universal themes. Join us at 'Archetypes of Love' at Wentworth Galleries, 1 Martin Place, from November 30th to December 5th.
