Colina Wymarra
Colina Wymarra was born on Thursday Island and is the daughter of Edward Wymarra (a Gudang Yadhaykenu man from Cape York) and Kaunur Wymarra (nee Maza) a Dauareb Komet woman from Mer Island in the Torres Strait.
Through her practice, Wymarra explores storytelling and her connection to Country, celebrating her people and the places that she lives. Colina works across several mediums such as acrylics, ceramics, silks and realism drawing using graphite.
Inspired by the work of renowned Arrernte artist Albert Namatjira, Colina has held a profound interest in art from a young age.
Recent exhibitions include the UMI Arts Summer Exhibition in November 2023.
In 2023 she was awarded the Remote Area Artist Award in the QRAA finals with subsequent exhibitions with University of Queensland and the Judith Wright Centre. Colina’s work has recently been picked up by the International Publishing House Simon and Schulster for an upcoming book to be released later this year (2024).
