Bob Gibson Tjungurrayi Biography
Bob Gibson Tjungarrayi was born in 1974 at Papunya, he then moved with his family to Tjukurla. Bob hails from a strong artistic family where his mother was Mary Gibson an accomplished painter. Bob Gibson’s paintings could easily be interpreted as contemporary with his strong use of colour and shapes representing his travels and childhood upbringings. It is striking how he uses bold colours of rich reds oranges and contrasting whites to showcase his country. The desert is a powerful place that commands respect and Bob points this out in the way he uses shapes to highlight topography and sacred homelands where he really has a strong connection to the land. In later years his popularity has grown tremendously as people are connecting with his unique style of painting and understanding his interpretation of his homeland.
