Belinda Yee Biography

'I am an interdisciplinary Australian-Chinese artist living and working on Gadigal land. My practice is primarily in drawing, installation, and video. I approach drawing as a temporal art, one that is characteristically transient, open-ended and provisional. I use drawing to explore how time is understood and to reframe tempoopral experience. I am currently exploring processes for decolonising time and the inherent bias associated with new data-driven technologies.I completed a Bachelor of Visual Art (Painting) at Sydney College of the Arts, Sydney University, and a Bachelor of Industrial Design (Honours) from the University of Canberra. In 2022, I completed a Master of Fine Art (MFA) degree at the National Art School, where my research looked at conceptions of time in physics, philosophy and human biology. This research continues to feed a process of experimentation where I look for poetry in the way materials and situations perform their inherent temporality. I am interested in what this might reveal about the experience of being here, now.I have exhibited in group and solo exhibitions in Australia, Hong Kong and France. I have been a finalist in a number of prestigious national prizes including the Fisher's Ghost Award, the National Works on Paper Prize, the Hazelhurst Art on Paper Award, the Adelaide Perry Prize for Drawing and the Ravenswood Australian Women's Art Prize. My work is held in the permanent collection of the National Art School, the Capella Hotel in Sydney and in private collections in Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong, the Netherlands and the United States.'
