Ken Strong Biography
A diverse landscape provides the ideal flexibility to develop an approach towards creative composition. Ken has been painting Australian landscapes for over 40 years and has developed recognition both nationally and internationally for his work. His approach is to combine the strength available in the oil medium with a bold form and subtle subject. Whereas earlier works show a dominant influence from the Australian and European impressionist painters, there is now a greater emphasis on non representational, even abstract form within the compositions. His works are characterised by a bold application of paint, but also using a subtle approach to subject development. His subjects range from panoramic landscape to more intimate images combining the influence of man and his surroundings. Further focus is now on greater fluidity of the medium, evolving into a freer overall atmosphere, and helping to remove the constraints of reality. The end result of this approach in composition and application stimulates the imagination and draws the viewer into his works. He has written articles for several publications, including Australian Artist, International Artist and Artists Palette magazines and since 1994, Ken continues to exhibit his work widely. Opportunities arising through creative exploration with subjects, mediums and techniques which add a changing dimension to his work. For Ken, there is always an increased anticipation of the next phase of creativity.
